I’m going to try to answer some of the more common questions here, in no real order.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. The cost of the complete kit includes the rear panel, two bumpers, stainless steel mounting hardware pack from Zip Corvette, custom brackets and fasteners. The metal brackets are etch primed and coated with an enamel to fight corrosion. The bumpers and rear panel are primed, with 2K primer, then block sanded and primed again. Data sheets are included with the kit so compatible paint systems can be secured and only minimal final sanding with a 400 grit paper is needed prior to sealing and top coating. All mounting holes are pre-drilled and bumpers pre-fit for no hassle installation. Prices effective Jan 1st, 2020 will be $1200.00 USD
Q. What does it cost to ship?
A. I ship via UPS through out the US lower 48. If you want to ship outside of the Continental US, you will need to obtain a port of export and make arrangements for them to ship to you and comply with all US Customs requirements. I will supply documentation for the exporter to use. Shipping in the US is usually in the $350 to $400 range due to the over sized container needed to safely package the kit.
Q. What forms of payment do I take?
A. I use PayPal as they will also process credit cards for those who do not have a PayPal account set up. It’s very easy.
Q. Can you use original steel bumpers with this kit?
A. The quick answer is NO. The reason is outlined in the section on “fiberglass panel process”. Basically the early car has a different shape along the quarter panels than the later ones that this kit is for. The early car is straight back and the later one is tapered. Also, unless you move the quarter panel clearance lamp the bumper would extend over it.
Q. Are there holes cut for the tail pipes?
A. No…the panel is not cut for tail pipes so that if you want to run side pipes there is no messing around with trying to patch up the area. Also there were different styles of tail pipe bezels; some square and some round. I don’t cut the holes so the end user can place the holes where ever they need to.
Q. Can the bumpers be chrome plated?
A. Currently the only solution to having the bumpers look like they are chrome plated is by using a spray chrome method that actually applies a silvering medium to the bumper and then a clear coat applied to it, with a strong UV protector added to prevent tarnishing of the silver. It is basically like silvering a mirror and then clear coating it. Very sensitive… At this time I don’t offer this and the only place I could find to do it wanted Aprox $400 for a set of bumpers. I know there are industrial platers who can chrome plastic but they are only interested in Large batch work.
Q. Can I glass the part to my car?
A. Yes. But keep in mind the idea of this design is so that you can install this with no permanent modifications to your car. If you decide to transfer the parts to another car it can simply be unbolted and put on your next car. Another consideration is that because my panel does not have a removable lower panel it can be a challenge if you want to pull the body off the frame after you have permanently attached the panel to your body.
Q. Is there a kit for the front end too?
A. That is in development and hoping to have something later this summer/fall of 2020.
Q. Can I see photos of the kit on a car?
A. Here are a few sample photos of the kit on 2 cars. The Silver 74 is a long term project and the Red 76 is a daily driver. The kit on the 76 is the first prototype and some minor refinements have been made.
